“marry” ที่หมายถึง แต่งงาน เป็นคำที่ใช้ผิดค่อนข้างบ่อย ลองมาดูกันว่าจะใช้คำนี้ให้ถูกต้องได้อย่างไรตามหลักไวยากรณ์
get married
In an informal style, when there is no object “get married” is more common than “marry”. ในภาษาพูดที่ไม่เป็นทางการ เราสามารถใช้คำว่า “ get married” โดยที่ไม่ต้องมีกรรมในประโยค ถ้าใช้ “marry” จะเป็นทางการกว่า
- Lulu and Joe got married last week. ( less formal)
- Lulu and Joe married last week. ( more formal)
marry someone
Before a direct object, marry is used without prepositions.
ถ้าจะบอกว่าใครแต่งงานกับใคร เราสามารถใช้คำว่า “marry”
ตามด้วยกรรมของประโยคซึ่งเป็นได้ทั้งสรรพนามที่เป็นกรรม her/him
หรือคำนามที่เป็นชื่อเฉพาะก็ได้ โดยที่ไม่ต้องใส่คำบุพบทเข้าไป
- She married him last week. ( NOT She married with him.)
get / be married to someone
We can also use get / be married to with an object เราสามารถใช้ get married to หรือ be married to ตามด้วยกรรมของประโยค หรือคำนามที่เป็นชื่อเฉพาะ
- She got married to her childhood sweetheart.
- I’ve been married to you for 25 years and I still don’t understand you.
